Leverage Not Even in Bed Leverage Funny Moments
Hacker, hitter, grifter, thief, and mastermind. If you love heist movies, may we interest you in a heist TV series? Leverage follows a crew of thieves who use their skills to help take down powerful, untouchable bad guys.
Mixing action, comedy, and drama, Leverage is the Lay's potato chips of TV shows. Once you watch one episode, you're hooked and can't wait to see what the team does next.
It also serves as a clever commentary on capitalism and politics, since the CEOs and politicians the team goes after are "ripped from the headlines" bad guys.
With 77 episodes of Leverage and eight episodes of Leverage: Redemption , it's hard to narrow it down to our favorite jobs, but ultimately we decided to go with the most memorable, moving, and funny outings for the 15 best episodes of Leverage , and we've ranked them.
15. The Too Many Rembrandts Job (Leverage: Redemption Season 1 Episode 1)
Revivals are hard. They have to remind viewers of why they loved a show and introduce a new reason to jump back into the show. Leverage: Redemption Season 1 Episode 1, "The Too Many Rembrandts Job," has the added task of explaining Nate's absence and bringing Noah Wyle's Harry Wilson into the mold.
As the team meets up on the first anniversary of Nate's death, they get drawn into taking down an opioid manufacturer. It's classic Leverage with an updated twist.
The ensemble doesn't miss a beat, as they immediately get back on the con, and it's like reconnecting with an old friend and falling right back into the fun routine. It brilliantly gives fans something familiar, while simultaneously allowing new viewers an easy jumping-on point.
This is a delicate balance that not all revivals get right or even attempt.
14. The Low Low Price Job (Season 5 Episode 11)
Leverage Season 5 Episode 11, "The Low Low Price Job," is one of the series' episodes that come directly from the news. A big box store, which is clearly supposed to be Walmart, opens in a small town, and Eliot is worried it will eventually destroy the town.
To get the store closed, Nate uses everything from city politics to start a union to ghosts haunting the store, but the woman in charge is determined to get it opened.
This is one of those occasions where the authenticity makes the episode more fun. We all know what the issues are with stores like this, but the prices are too good for us to pass up. With this in mind, it gives us a chance to see one of these stores get what they deserve, without making hard financial choices.
We also get to see Nate make on-the-fly adjustments that lead the mark back to the original con. It's a great example of how he really does have plans for every contingency.
13. The Homecoming Job (Season 1 Episode 2)
The first episode of a show serves to introduce the characters and the universe, but the second episode is when the show really comes together. Leverage Season 1 Episode 2, "The Homecoming Job," has the team going on its first official job together.
In order to help a veteran get the benefits he deserves, they take on a crooked congressman and a private military contractor. This is where we get to see how the team is really going to work.
Eliot instantly spots the bad guys, Hardison easily discovers the paper trail, Parker cracks a lock without breaking a sweat, Sophie gets the congressman and the CEO to turn on one another, and Nate moves all the pieces where they need to be.
While we may love the first episode for introducing us to all these amazing characters, "The Homecoming Job" is where we really see what Leverage can be.
12. The Lonely Hearts Job (Season 4 Episode 15)
In a twist, the rich guy comes to the crew for help when his wife goes missing. Since this is Leverage , it leads to a black widow con.
What we love about this one is it finally shows how much Nate truly loves Sophie. Up to this point, he's been frustratingly standoffish about his feelings, but when he's forced to romance her during the con, his emotions are clearly real.
It's also a reminder that no matter what seems to be going on, Nate is always the mastermind, and always knows how to get to the end goal.
If we're being honest, our love of this episode can be found in one pivotal scene, which is one of the funniest of the series. Nate tells Parker to start a fight to cause a distraction, and she takes him literally by punching another woman.
The team's shocked reactions are laugh-out-loud hilarious, making it one of our all-time favorites.
11. The Juror #6 Job (Season 1 Episode 11)
Parker has been on her own her whole life, so adjusting to suddenly working in a team is a big deal for her. To teach her real-life teamwork, the gang makes her serve jury duty. And of course, it turns out the trial is rigged, and the team needs to intervene.
Chessmaster Nate engages in a cat and mouse game with the defendant's team, while Hardison finds himself pretending to be the plaintiff's lawyer.
As a Season 1 episode, we're still getting glimpses of the full range of what everyone is capable of, but we're far enough in to not be surprised by all their talent.
Following Leverage Season 1 Episode 6, "The Stork Job," this episode is the next step in Parker's character development. She's nowhere near where she eventually ends up, but Leverage Season 1 Episode 11, "The Juror #6 Job," is a pivotal step in her journey.
10. The Big Bang Job (Season 3 Episode 15)
Leverage Season 3 Episode 15, "The Big Bang Job," sets up the final confrontation with Damien Moreau in this action-packed episode.
This is Leverage's version of an action movie. To stop Moreau from selling a bomb, Sophie, Parker, and Hardison chase down a train and blow up the bomb in a very dramatic, slow-motion style.
While that's going on Eliot goes full John Wick with a massive warehouse shootout where he kills all the bad guys, then calmly walks away with the explosion behind him. For three seasons we've seen how good Eliot is, but we've never really seen how dangerous he can be when he doesn't hold back.
Yes, there are a few jokes in the episode, but the stakes are higher, so the team takes things seriously. It's the perfect complement to the shenanigans of Leverage Season 3 Episode 16, "The San Lorenzo Job."
9. The Future Job (Season 2 Episode 13)
Over the course of its run Leverage features some great guest stars. One of its most memorable, and most detestable is Luke Perry as fake psychic Dalton Rand. For Nate in particular, it's not just that he's stealing from people, it's that he's denying them closure on their loss.
Perry is so hateable in the way he takes advantage of his clients, but he's also charming because we still have that connection to our teenage heartthrob. He's the kind of villain that makes the episode more interesting than it has any right to be.
Though Rand is always the target, a bigger threat reveals itself, and the team saves him and sends him to prison at the same time.
It's a fascinating episode that includes a look into Parker's tragic past, a loss that tells us why she keeps everyone at arm's length. It's a complete episode, where nothing is missing from the story.
8. The Scheherazade Job (Season 3 Episode 4)
It's no surprise to us that Sophie loves the story of Scheherazade: a woman who saved herself from execution by tempting her captor with a new story every night.
To take down a wannabe dictator, Nate uses Hardison's childhood violin skills to gain access to the man's vault.
In addition to Aldis Hodge's real-life violin reenactment of one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever, the bad guy is played by Giancarlo Esposito, who elevates everything he's in.
Hodge's superb acting during Hardison's performance of Scheherazade is what keeps us invested in the episode, and why it's always on our re-watch list. Though he didn't actually play the piece, he portrayed the timing and fingering so beautifully, that like the mark, we are completely entranced.
It's not that this is the series' most compelling con, but all the elements come together so perfectly.
7. The Inside Job (Season 3 Episode 3)
One of the reasons we love Parker is that she's a very "what you see is what you get" character. There are no games with Parker, which makes her simultaneously hilarious and frustrating.
Other than the fact that she grew up on her own, and only cares about money, we don't know anything about her. To this day, we still don't know if Parker is her first or last name.
On Leverage Season 3 Episode 3, "The Inside Job," her mentor Archie Leach (Richard Chamberlain) reaches out to the team when Parker gets trapped inside a building with an advanced security system.
Her interactions with Archie provide an insight into her self-awareness. Up until this point, we assumed Parker didn't realize how weird she is, because she's always presented as thinking everyone else is the weird ones.
When she has a chance to escape, Parker chooses to stay inside and stop the evil businesswoman, showing that she really believes in what the team does.
Even though Parker is the focus, the team is so good they beat a state-of-the-art system with minimal prep, and no plan.
6. The Grave Danger Job (Season 4 Episode 7)
As much as Leverage is an ensemble, sometimes one of the crew gives a standout performance that elevates everything. Leverage Season 4 Episode 7, "The Grave Danger Job," features Aldis Hodge in one of his best performances of the series.
When Hardison is kidnapped and buried alive during a con, the team hurries to find him, while he does everything he can to survive.
Hodge takes us through all the emotions, literally all of them, without making it feel like he's working to get there. He masterfully moves from shock to fear to despair to almost acceptance.
While he's the focus, the depth of how much these people care about one another is evident as the team frantically searches for him.
In the end, it's the emotionally closed-off Parker who's able to keep him grounded. The idea of nearly losing him forces her to really confront her feelings for him, while still desperately trying to keep her walls up.
We never think Hardison won't be saved because Leverage isn't that kind of show. However, the way the episode moves through the team's reactions and feelings is an enjoyable ride.
5. The Van Gogh Job (Season 4 Episode 4)
Period episodes, where the cast plays characters from a different time, are fairly common. Leverage Season 4 Episode 4, "The Van Gogh Job," takes the team back to the '40s as they search for a lost treasure.
It's a showcase for Aldis Hodge and Beth Riesgraf, as they portray the star-crossed lovers central to the missing painting.
Charlie Lawson is held back from being with the girl he loves. Though they're not able to be together, it's clear they never stopped loving one another. Hodge's spectacular performance as Charlie is all the evidence you need to know Hodge was destined for the superstardom he is now experiencing.
Guest star Danny Glover narrates the story as an older Charlie. His connection with Parker helps her open up emotionally about her feelings for Hardison.
There's still plenty of Sophie grifting and Eliot punching, but the change of pace from the usual Leverage formula leads to a beautiful episode.
4. The Rundown Job (Season 5 Episode 9)
In a rare occurrence the team split up to work two separate cases, and it leads to some of the best work of the series. Leverage Season 5 Episode 9, "The Rundown Job," follows Eliot, Parker, and Hardison as they stop a terrorist attack in Washington D.C.
By this point, they're a well-oiled family that trusts each other implicitly. Though Eliot thinks this job is too dangerous for his friends, Parker and Hardison convince him that he can't stop the attack without them.
Instead of the team conning a rich bad guy, they're really the heroes who save the day. It was a chance for the show to highlight what else it could be moving forward.
Even with all the amazing jobs the crew has been on, this is the purest showcase of their teamwork.
3. The Last Dam Job (Season 4 Episode 18)
An old enemy comes back to haunt the crew when the very first person they took down wants revenge. Saul Rubinek returns as Victor Dubenich, killing Nate's father in retribution for ruining his life.
Since he knows the team so well, they're forced to work with friends and adversaries. It's hilarious to watch them walk their counterparts through the con since everyone has completely different styles.
Though Nate is hellbent on killing Dubenich, it's a true team effort, as their support brings him back from the brink of a mistake.
"The Last Dam Job" has everything. It provides closure to a season-long arc, calls back to past episodes, and includes ridiculous meta-jokes.
It's the best representation of Leverage's evolution as a TV series because it's such a carefully crafted story full of important revelations.
2. The San Lorenzo Job (Season 3 Episode 16)
Throughout Season 3, the series follows the team's mission to take down powerful criminal Damien Moreau. Leverage Season 3 Episode 16, "The San Lorenzo Job," is the culmination of this storyline.
With Moreau holed up in the tiny island country San Lorenzo, the team can't run a con on someone this dangerous, so politics it is. At one point, Nate tells Moreau he's been running an American-style campaign, and considering how dirty the crew gets, it's frighteningly real.
Goran Visnjic guest stars as Moreau, using all the charm we fell in love with on ER to bring the scary villain to life. He adds credibility to a character the show spends all season building into an untouchable bad guy.
"The San Lorenzo Job" is a perfect blend of everything that makes Leverage fun to watch.
The team displaying their expertise, Nate walking the mark right where they want him, comical commentary on current events, and a little romance. It's the rare second half of a two-parter that can be watched as a standalone.
1. The Nigerian Job (Season 1 Episode 1)
Sometimes a show gets you right from the start. And that's exactly what Leverage Season 1 Episode 1, "The Nigerian Job," does. After a sad flashback into the tragedy that drives Nate, we get a fun introduction to the team and their skills.
It's clear that as good as they are, they need each other, and not just to steal stuff.
When Sophie enters the picture with her terrible acting, we wonder what direction this is going in. The clever reveal that she's only good when it involves the con is hilarious, and one of the show's funniest running gags.
From day one, Leverage never pretends that the team isn't comprised of criminals. They're bad guys going after worse guys. However, Timothy Hutton, Gina Bellman, Beth Riesgraf, Christian Kane, and Aldis Hodge have such undeniable chemistry, we can't help wanting to be a part of the team.
